S/S 2011 issue 15 explores nudity as an indicator of the seasonality of fashion - I really enjoyed this issue. I especially enjoy the contrast between the 19th century sculpture by Artistide Maillol and french-mega-model Laetitia Casta, as shown on this cover. I love the exploitation of sex in fashion. No one is exempt! Even the most modest of frocks has a certain sensuality about it.

Speaking of Baby Jane, has everyone seen the film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (circa 1962)? It's about two sisters who are retired actresses, one is disabled and the non-disabled sister is abusive. When we were growin up, my sister and I used to play a game called "Baby Jane," where we would take turns abusing each other. Very sadistic, I know, but we were like that.

Advent calendar: Days 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22

I never thought that making 24 days worth of wishes would be this hard! I love to shop, don't get me wrong, but I'm realizing more and more that I have everything I want/need.

Did I fall in love with a beautiful Celine handbag this weekend at bergdorfs? ...Yes! ...but do I need it? Probably not! The gifts I most appreciate come from the heart (truly) and don't require deep pockets. They are usually from my Sister, Brother or Husband.

Last year, my Brother bought we a beautiful camel-colored throw because, as he put it " You are always cold." In the same year, my lovely husband bought me a beautiful leather-bound journal where we can write posts to each other. It was super romantic!

So? What more could a girl ask for?

Important news: I'm going to be a successful fashion designer! I dream about this almost daily! Apparently so does my darling Kate.

If it "came" to Kate in a dream it's bound to come true (Channeling Goethe right now, dream it, begin it, check!).

Here is a correspondence between me and one of my longest standing friends:

me: I miss you! I loved spending time with you in Guatemala!

Kate: Awwww, ditto.

me: It was really awesome.

Kate: It was, wasn't it?

Kate: OMG! I almost forgot! I had a dream after I got back that you were having a fashion show of your designs. You had me model in it and I hated you for it, because everyone else was skinny.

me: Haha! I love that dream. It means I will become a successful designer someday.

Kate: I kept saying, "No, I'm a size 12. It doesn't make sense!" LOL

me: That's funny and very much something I would do. (Note: Kate is one of my most beautiful friends and would certainly be featured in my fashion show.)

In my lifetime, I have had the pleasure of having hundreds of friends. Male friends, female friends, related friends, best friends, party friends, yoga friends, shopping friends, ex-pat friends, funny friends, diva friends, travel friends, and now blog friends.

I've learned that there isn't a relationship more rewarding than female friendship. Female friends empower and encourage each other, help each other bring visions to fruition, and support each other when they are feeling blue.  They also keep you on your toes by being their fabulous driven selves.

A Conversation with Anna Sui

Hello Chickens! Here is an early holiday gift for you! Scoop! Anna Sui will discuss her fall line at the Met this January.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art does a series of concerts and lectures that are absolutely superb. My husband and I attended a lecture by Salman Rushdie last year, it was fascinating.

On January 14th at 6pm, Anna is going to speak with various met curators (including Andrew Bolton of the Costume Institute) on how her fall collection was influenced by the work of Charles Rohlfs - amazing!

The exhibition: The artistic furniture of Charles Rohlfs can be viewed at the met until January 23, 2010.

It's interesting to think about where design inspiration comes from. As an aspiring designer, most of my inspiration has come from traveling. While exploring different parts of the world, everything from a floral arrangement to architecture can spark big ideas. I've also come to appreciate the rich cultural influences behind color palates, trends, and construction techniques (like using the back strap loom in Guatemala).

Advent calendar: Day 1

Hubby's Aunt, who lives in Germany, always sends us an advent calendar to countdown to Christmas. Last night I opened up the first adorable little window -  can someone say delicious marzipan treat?

After indulging and doing 12 sprints of my apartment to burn the calories, I got to thinking what if my advent calendar could provide me with 24 wishes. What would I wish for? What do I covet? Would it be entirely pretentious to blog about what I covet most? Nah!

Day 1, wish 1: Lanvin's leopard-print shoulder bag. A bit trendy, but a fabulous way to wear the leopard print trend.  I bet you could find this beauty in the how to spend it.
